The Girls Varsity Basketball Program has started a new season. This year's team is very young, with 8 of the 11 players being underclassmen. That being said, Coach Doug Brotherton is not looking ahead to the future. "We are working very hard to be the best basketball team that we can be, for this season. Liz M and Ana B are two wonderful Seniors and they have given a lot to our program. We are not going to look ahead, when we have an opportunity to honor both of them."
The first two weeks of practice have been about establishing an understanding of the culture of the program. The Lady Vikings lost four Seniors, who all played a big role. The team went 26-7, reaching the TAPPS 6A Quarterfinal. Coach Brotherton is hoping that the team can continue with the recent success. "We are very young, but that is not an excuse. Our team is going to need to get into some battles, and then grow from those experiences. We are going to be really good if we can stay connected and get a little bit tougher. By the time that we reach January, we are going to be a tough team to play against."
The Lady Vikings have started the season 5-1 after winning the consolation bracket at the Greater Houston Classic Tournament last weekend.
